We were dress rehearsing for a Movement Diary performance at Nakanojo Biennale and took the opportunity to explore the abandoned Sawada school, one of the exhibition venues. The ground and first floors were busy with artists finishing installations, but the top floor was relatively untouched. We found out about the competition at a late stage and realised we only had a couple of days to come up with an idea and shoot before I had to come back to London.
Masumi's character appeared through discussions we had in the car the day before. I like her and want to spend more time with her, taking the opportunity to explore acoustics, sound design and movement.
